More experience tends to make better talent. The performer learns from any mistakes or trouble shooting at other clients’ events.  Familiarity with a large music collection is key to a DJ’s success and takes many years. Three to five years of experience is a good minimum for a DJ.

I USE INTELLIGENT LIGHTS

Many DJs with smaller systems will arrive 45 minutes or less before your event to set up. If that makes you nervous specify a more comfortable timing.

I ARRIVE 2.5 – 3 HOURS BEFORE START TIME. I’D RATHER BE CALMLY WAITING THAN NERVOUSLY SETTING UP.  I ALSO LIKE TO MAKE MY CORDS LOOK NEAT AND SECURELY TAPED DOWN.

Note: Because DJs use prerecorded music to create an experience from live audience reaction, a sample cd from a DJ is not a very accurate way to gauge how he/she will perform at your event with your favorite music.

If you saw the band perform, make sure any musicians you liked will be the ones performing at your event. Most bands substitute players all the time. Vocalists, Band leaders and lead guitarists will be the most noticeable substitutions.

The full band may cost more but the cocktail music would be much more interesting and varied.
